Trust Hound

Privacy policy

Effective October 16, 2026

The short version: Trust Hound has no servers, no accounts and no tracking. When it checks a post, it sends that post's text, captions, a couple of video still frames and a text version of what was said, straight from your browser to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI, using your own API key. Video sound is turned into text on your own computer and never uploaded. Your settings and results stay in your browser. We never see or sell your data.

Who we are

Trust Hound is a Chrome extension that flags false and misleading claims in social media posts and videos. In this policy, "we" means the developer of Trust Hound. You can reach us at support@trusthound.dog.

What Trust Hound reads

Trust Hound only runs on the sites you allow in its settings (Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Reddit and YouTube by default). On those sites, when a post stays on your screen for about a second, Trust Hound reads:

It does not read your private messages, your passwords, forms you fill out, or pages on other websites. It never uses your microphone.

How video sound is handled

When voice listening is on, Trust Hound turns a video's speech into text using a speech recognition model that runs entirely on your computer. The audio is never uploaded or saved. It is discarded as soon as it has been turned into text. Only that text is used in the check described below.

Some sites, such as Instagram, play videos straight from their media servers in a way that stops extensions from reading the video's sound or pictures on the page. For those videos, Trust Hound downloads the start of the same video file (the part your browser is already playing) from the site's media server, takes the speech and two still images from it on your computer, and then discards the file. Nothing about you is sent with that download.

The first time listening is used, Trust Hound downloads the speech model (Whisper, made available on Hugging Face) once and stores it in your browser. That download doesn't include any information about you. You can turn listening off in settings at any time.

Where that information goes

To check a post, Trust Hound sends the post text, captions, still images and the text of what was said (never the audio itself), plus the name of the site, directly from your browser to Anthropic's Claude API. The request uses an API key that you create and enter yourself. Anthropic's AI decides whether the post contains a checkable claim and, if it does, searches the web for reliable sources and returns a verdict.

Trust Hound does not send the address of the page, your name, your account details on the social site, or your browsing history.

The information goes only to Anthropic. It does not pass through any server we run, because we don't run one. Anthropic handles this data under its own terms and privacy policy, which you can read at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

What is stored on your computer

Trust Hound uses your browser's local extension storage to keep:

This data stays in your browser on this computer. It isn't synced to your Google account and we can't access it. Your API key is only ever sent to Anthropic, as part of check requests.

What we don't do

Chrome Web Store user data policy

Trust Hound's use of information received from Chrome extension APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Page content is used only to provide the extension's single purpose, checking claims in posts you view, and is not transferred to anyone other than Anthropic for that purpose.

Your choices

Children

Trust Hound is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If Trust Hound changes how it handles data, for example by offering a paid version that runs through our own servers, we'll update this policy before that change takes effect and change the date at the top.
